A Glimpse at Sen. George Akume: A Quintessential Kaleidoscope of Life

Held from Benue, north central state of Nigeria, George Akume was born on the 27 December 1953). He is a Nigerian politician who is the 21st and current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, appointed by President Bola Tinubu. He served as Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs during the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023. He was the Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District from 2007 to 2019. He was also the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015. He served as the Governor of Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007.

Perhaps Sen. Akume has brought to bare his vast wealth of experience into the current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. As the SGF, he bequeathed a paradigm shift in the federal civil service and perhaps, in running the affairs of the Nigeria's presidency. His is felt, and his name is written with an indelible gold ink in the pages of Nigeria's political history. His legacy is etched in marbles, inscribed in rock and his footprints will forever remain in the sands of time for the next generation and the generation yet unborn, to emulate.
